Back in November (?), I joined the Sock Knitters Anonymous group on Ravelry in a bid to motivate me to knit more socks. I love knitted socks, but sadly, it felt like I always had something else on the needles!
It proved to be a successful idea and I’ve had several pairs of socks on the needles, and finished since then! Yay for warm toes.
I participated in my first Sockdown in December. A sockdown is a contest where SKA members challenge themselves into knitting at least a pair of socks in the 2 months period the challenge is running. It’s not a “who knitted the loveliest pair of socks” kind of contest, so it’s open to everyone, no matter what their skills are. Every month also has different themes, so there’s plenty to choose from.
In December, one of the challenges was “unusual sock construction”, so that allowed me to try on a pattern that had been in my queue forever: Skew socks (Rav link). It was totally worth it and I’m very happy with the results. I’ve been wearing them quite a bit since I finished my pair!

The yarn was some Juno Fibre Arts sock yarn that I had rescued from a languishing project and it worked out very well for the Skews. (You can read all the details on my Rav project page here.)
Not only did I gain a lovely pair of socks, my name was also picked up for a prize (“winners” are chosen randomly). All the prizes are brilliant, but I think mine was one of the best! Hyia Hyia / The Knitting Zone was sponsoring my prize and they sent me a lot of stuff.

My package included a beautiful project bag in teal, THREE pairs of sock circulars (in 2mm, 2.25mm and 2.5mm) with their accompanying stitch markers, 1 very cute puppy snips which I can attach to my project bag and 1 skein of Shaefer Yarn Nichole in a lovely tan / light golden brown semi solid. Oh, and let’s not forget a pattern, which is quite pretty: HyiaHyia Blossom socks.
To say that I am pleased would be an understatement. I never thought I would win anything and it wasn’t my reason to participate in the Sockdowns. I just wanted motivation to knit some socks!
The project bag is already being used. And I can’t wait to finish my current sock project to start playing with my new needles and yarn!!

Gosh, that’s a really fabulous prize! Well done you. :-) The socks are awesome too. I wouldn’t be able to take them off – I’d have to wear them constantly. Hope things are going well with all your plans. J x
