Busy Sunday

While the boys are out in the sunshine, I’m keeping myself busy at home. We’ve been talking about moving Lucas to his bedroom. Until now, we have been happily cosleeping. But he’s getting bigger and we feel it’s about time for him to have his own space at night (and for us to get our space back too!).

We have tried a couple of times in the past to move him to his bedroom without success. I am terrible with the getting up in the middle of the night, especially if I’ve been asleep for less than 1 hour. It didn’t work out, but we are going to try again. So what’s a mum gonna do? Well, she’s going to make the little big boy’s space nice for him to feel comfy!

I had made him a quilt last year, so it was just adding to it (and cleaning things too!).

Today, I’ve added the owls bed sheet. My sister-in-law had bought this fabric for us in Japan and there was a lot of it. I didn’t know what to do with it. It’s such a cute print! It had been sitting out of my stash box for a few weeks, in an attempt to find some inspiration. As I was getting the bed ready, it struck me that this piece of fabric would make the perfect bed sheet for a little boy. I hemmed the sides, left the selvedge and there you go, instant cute bed sheet!

My second make of the day was the pillowcase to match the quilt. I had quite a bit of leftovers squares, so it was perfect. (I know I’m using the word perfect a lot today!) A length of white fabric, the squares soon together then appliquéd, french seams all around, and tada! A pillowcase. I didn’t do an envelope to keep the pillow in, but I’m thinking adding buttons/buttonholes. Or not. We’ll see.

I’m quite pleased with the results. Now, let’s hope that the little one will like his new stuff!

    It looks so cosy.

Might be a good idea to stay away from buttons unless they are huge, they could be a choking hazard if they are normal sized.
Huge ones might be fun though?

Wow I love the sheet, i’d want to sleep in that bed! When we moved my son from a cot to the bed we made a big deal out of him getting new ‘big boy’ bedding and he was so excited he wanted to sleep in it straight away!

I agree with Natalie about the buttons, not just the choking hazard but uncomfortable if he put the pillow the wrong way round. What about a couple of bits of velcro instead?

I was thinking about snaps, but velcro is a very good idea! I’ll have to get some! :)

He had a mini nap in his bed, but he’s a bit freaked out by it. I’m thinking about sleeping on the floor in his bedroom until he gets used to it.
It doesn’t help that his room is just under the stereo of our upstairs neighbour who was at the time playing music very loudly…

Aw what a lovely looking bed! How sweet of you to make all that! I am currently working on a quilt for my wee girl and my son is long overdue one too! Your choice of colours is lovely. xxx
