I started knitting socks about 2 years ago. I’m not an avid sock knitter, but once in a while, I love working on a sock. Especially after a long tedious project, I really enjoy the assurance of a quick project (unless you decided to cast on Rhombuses by Cookie A., like I foolishly did.. now a work-in-not-much-progress).
Soon after, I found myself with leftover sock yarn. But what to do with those? Well, in February 2010, I decided to make granny squares out of them. I knew it was going to be a long project, but I was (and still am) totally fine with that.
In April 2010, I also bought some sock yarn to use along my leftovers 1) because I thought it would maybe take me 30 years to have enough leftovers to make a decent size blanket and 2) because that would give some coherence to my leftovers which are all different colours.
Yesterday, as I was finishing another pair of socks (I might show them to you soon), I found myself with unused yarn. So I grabbed my 3.5mm hook and made about a dozen little squares. I then went to add them to my bag of squares, which I found to be plumper that I remembered.
So I took the whole bag out of the storage box, grabbed some grey Regia and started crocheting them together. Here is the result of an evening of work.

I wasn’t too sure how all the different colours / colourways would work together, but now seeing this beginning of a blanket, I KNOW it will look fantastic once finished! This piece is about 22″ on the longest size, so I still have a wee way to go until I have a useable blanket!
I love how it looks like a scrapbook of projects. I know that every time I will look at it, I will remember the socks, shawls or else that I knitted, many of which will have been given away to family and friends.
In there, I have some of the Yarn Yard’s Clan (the newest additions to the collection, semi solids grey and cranberry pink/red), some DiC Smooshy (the semi solid dark green), some Lorna’s lace Shepherd’s sock (the tealy green), some Juno Fibre Arts (the semi solid blue). Everything else is Regia, I think. Oh, no, the bright orange and pink one I think is Wendy Happy.

I have about 20 other squares ready, but I’m starting to feel like it’s becoming a bit too samey, so I will wait until I have more leftovers sock yarn to make more squares.
You know what that means, right? That means I need to knit more socks! And buy more sock yarn!! Life’s tough, I tell you!
