Well, no, I’m not having twins (thanks God for that!), but I did finish 2 little quilts that would be perfect for newborn boy and girl twins. They were created as an experiment to see if it was possible to get 2 baby quilts out of one charm pack – and it was!
They are small quilts, the girl one is about 30″ square and the boy one is about 28″. I could have added a border to the boy one to make them the same size, but I liked it without so I decided to leave it out.
To be fair, the girl one had been finished and washed and on our sofa for a little while now (this explains the folding creases), while the boy one languished on my wip pile for all that time.

This one used 16 5″ squares from the Lily and Will line, sewn into blocks of 4. I set them on points. The solid is Bella Solids Bleached White. It looks lovely with the subtle colours of the charms. I used 4 9.5″ squares, so a half a metre of fabric would be plenty for this project. The border is from the Essential Dots – I think it’s Chocolate. The borders were 3.5″ or 4″ wide (I can’t remember and the quilt is in the room where Lucas is sleeping right now). I tried mitered corners, and I was quite happy with the result! The binding is from the Pindots line, in Leaves.

For the boy one, I used 18 5″ squares, 16 of them were used for the pinwheels and 2 for the central diamonds. The solid and the binding are the same as the girl’s one. (It hasn’t been washed yet, I expect it to crinkle nicely)
Both quilts were quilted with white thread, using free motion quilting, meandering / stippling style. I am getting quite good at it now, and I actually enjoyed quilting the boy one. No ripping, no puckering and almost even stitching.

I absolutely love the backings. I went for very simple solid backs, but just a tad more saturated than the fronts. I love it and the contrast with the binding is brilliant. The pink is Bella Solids Pink and the blue is Bella Solids Summer Sky.
And that’s something I can take off my list of things to do!!

They look beautiful!
