Handspun

Yesterday, I have received the drop spindle and the lovely wool tops that I ordered a while ago. I am finally starting to receive some mail, yay!

Until recently, I didn’t even think that it would be possible / easy to hand spin your own fibers. But I started reading craft blogs around the internet and I found out that I could do it. I pondered for a couple of weeks if I should give it a go. My husband was willing to fond whatever craft I was into and he seemed to think that was a good idea. ‘After that, you’ll just have to learn how to shear a sheep!’ So I bought this learning kit: a drop spindle and an assortment of 200g of merino wool tops in nice shades of blues and greens. The funny thing is that wool and spindle are coming from New Zealand!

Now it’s here. Next to me. I have read the instructions. I have understood everything and what I read watched on the internet made them even clearer. The wool tops feel wonderfully soft. But it is still in its bag. I am scared! I am scared of not succeeding in spinning my own wool. I am afraid I will make a big mess of this lovely wool. I don’t like failure.

When I’m done with the Big Boy’s scarf, I’ll give it a go. If other people can do it, then I can do it too, right?…
