Baby blanket

When I found out I was expecting our first child, I suddenly felt like I needed to ‘make things’ again. That is the way it is in my family: when you are expanding your family, you create stuff for the new addition, be it blankets, jackets, pants etc. And mostly knitted stuff.

So, when the first scan gave us the all clear, it became necessary for me to find a wool shop and start knitting again! My mum taught me how to knit when I was a child, more than 20 years ago! I made myself a fair lot of jumpers and pullovers when I was a teenager, but stopped knitting when I was in my early 20′s as I couldn’t find any pattern or wool to fit my tastes.

When I casted my first few stitches on, it felt like I had never stopped knitting. And after a few rows, I found myself wondering why I hadn’t knitted for so long!

My first project after so many years of not knitting anything at all was a blanket for my baby. I had an idea, but no pattern and just knitted it like that. I found some nicely coloured all natural cottons that I used to make the patchwork-like top. And I knitted an all-acrylic back to make it extra soft and warm.
It measures about 80×80 cms and it has a crocheted wavy border
